Grade 12Physical Chemistry

For the reaction,

CaCO3 (s) <=> CaO (s) + CO2 (g) , Kp = 0.5 atm at 250C. If 20 gm of CaCO3 is placed at 250C in a closed container, calculate the amount of CO2 gas produced when reaction comes to equilibrium.

(a) 20 gm

(b) 44 gm

Dear Mr. Anurag

For given reaction: Kp=p(CO2);  Cao and CaCo3 are in solid form and so there is not any partial pressure

Kp=nRT/V, but volume of the container is not given so data is not sufficient. Option C is correct.
