2.2g of a compopund of phosphorous and sulphur has1.24g of P in it  Determine its empirical formula

6 years ago

Answers : (1)

Dear pallavi

percentage of sulpher = 1.24/2.2 *100 =56.4

percentage of P = 100-56.4 =43.6

relative number of molecules  of S = 56.4/32 = 1.76

relative number of molecules  of P = 43.6 /31 = 1.41

intigral ratio of sulpher is =5

intigral ration of P   = 4

so imperical formula  = P4S5

A certain amount of a metal whose equivalent mass is 28 displaces 0.7L of hydrogen gas at S.T.P from an acid hence mass of the element is
Dear student Here we have to apply law of equivalence, equivalent of metal = equivalent of hydrogen mass/Equivalent mass of metal = Volume of H2/11.2 mass/28 = 0.7/11.2 mass = 1.75 g

moles at STP n = V/22.4 -=> 0.4=7/22.4 = > 0.3125 moles. Now, Weight of element = 0.3125 * 28 * 2 => 1.7583 gms approx.
