Hi,
Hybridization is a process by which orbitals within the same atom undergoes mixing (rearrangements) such that it can provide (a) Uniform energy level and (b) Suitable axes of symmetry to the incoming bonding orbitals.(a) S orbital has lower energy than p orbitals. To form two sigma bonds S and Px orbital of Berylium must be brought at the same energy level by pulling the s orbital up and the Px orbital down.(b) The S orbital has spherical symmetry and the Px orbital has a dumble shape symmetry. Mixing of these two ( s and Px) gives a butterfly shape Sp hybrid orbital where two hydrogen atom can form bond with the Berylium atom
