Scientific notatins are used to make the calculations simple.
For example it is very difficult to find out the answer of
0.000095 x 5600000.00
but this calculation can be made simple by the use of scientific notation
9.5 x 10-5 x 5.6 x 106 =53.2 x 10

So, the use of scientifica notations make complex calculations simple. while significant figures are important rule which need to be followed for doing any calculation.
