Dear Jaya Priya,

An alloy is a mixture or metallic solid solution composed of two or more elements. Complete solid solution alloys give single solid phase microstructure, while partial solutions give two or more phases that may or may not be homogeneous in distribution, depending on thermal (heat treatment) history. Alloys usually have different properties from those of the component elements.

Bell metal is a hard alloy used for making bells. It is a form of bronze, usually approximately 4:1 ratio of copper to tin(78% copper, 22% tin). Bell metal ore is a sulfide of tin, copper, and iron called stannite.

Invar, also known generically as FeNi36 (64FeNi in the US), is a nickel iron alloy notable for its uniquely low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE or α). The name, Invar, comes from the wordinvariable, referring to its lack of expansion or contraction with temperature changes.
