Q: Explain why the first ionization energy of lithium is less than that of berylium, but the second ionization energy of berylium is greater than that of lithium

If you could explainthe whole concept clearly it would be better

Dear Mridul,

To remove an additional electron from lithium would be removing an electron from a full energy sub-level whereas removing the second electron from beryllium would leave a more stable full outer electron level.
