NH4Cl (l) --------->NH4+(aq)  +  Cl-(aq)
this represents dissociation
NH4+(aq) + H2O(l)   NH4OH(l) + H+(aq)
this represents hydrolysis
 
aNOW,
                         NH4Cl  ----------->   NH4+  +  Cl-
 
initially                  1 mol                   0           0
 
 at equilbrium         1-a                       a           a
 
therefore,
total number of moles at equilibrium  = 
                                                          = 1--a-2a
so,
                                                       i = 1-a-2a
                                                       i = 1+a
                                          if a=8(given)
i=9
so vant hoff factor = 9
