Why is this compound 5-Methyl-1,2,6-hexanetricarbonitrile and not 2-Methyl-1,5,6-hexanetricarbonitrile?

In the naming of organic compounds,as per rule goverened by IUPAC nomenclature the functional group should be given priority.In case of above compound,its an nitrile compound i.e nitrile is an functional group(3 nitriles).So it should be given the priority during the numbering.If you number it as 2-Methyl-1,5,6-hexanetricarbonitrile,methyl group gets the lower number.But if you naming it as 5-Methyl-1,2,6-hexanetricarbonitrile,the number 1,2 indicates that lower number is given to the functional group and 5-Methyl indicates that methyl gets more number.So the above compound is named as 5-Methyl-1,2,6-hexanetricarbonitrile.
