Dipole moment = Charge * bond length
it simply tellu you whether a bond is polar or not. If it is polar then how much its polarity (% of ionic character). The dipolt moment is vector quantity, so in a polyatomic molecule with more than one polar bond then resulting DP is simply resultant of all of those. That is why6 in NH3
