Any -M group attached to the benzene or (benzoic acid in this case) would obvious increase the acidity of the organic compound. Here Nitro group is increasing the acidity factor as it is destabalizing the compound due to the elcctron deficient oxygen atoms and N atoms iteslef in it.

-COOH is deactivating group in addition Nitro is also electron withdrawing group as N is having -I &- R effect.so it will pull the electron from benzene.as number of deactivating group increases its acidity increases.hence nitro benzene is more acidic than benzoic acid
