Longest chain is the chain with 6 carbons. Hence parent chain is hexane. Methyl is in 3 & 5 or 2 & 4. Using least sum locant rule, 2 & 4 should be taken.
Then there is an ethyl substituted at C3.
Then the IUPAC name of the compound is 3-Ethyl-2,4-dimethylhexane.
The name cannot be 2,4-dimethyl-3-ethylhexane as it’s not in alphabetical order.
According to IUPAC rules for nomenclature the names of different substituents should be written according to their alphabetical order irrespective of their prefixes like di,tri, cyclo etc.
Here as per alphabetical order e comes before m.
So correct answer is 3-Ethyl-2,4-dimethylhexane.

The longest carbon chain is of 6 carbons, hence, the parent name is hexane. Now, writing the chain in a simplified form, we get two groups attached to the main carbon chain, isopropyl group at the 3rd position and methyl group at the 4th position. Arranging them in alphabetical order we get the IUPAC name,3-isopropyl-4-methylhexane. Hence the third option is the correct one
