Question is attached. The answer given is 2s or 8s. I think that the two answers correspond to two cases wherein the balls are either thrown above the base of the chamber or they have been rolled on the base. Am i correct??

Yes , u can use alcoholic KOH to convert propene to propyne , 
FRST OF ALL REACT PROPENE WITH Br2 in dark (without avaliability of light ) , 
then it will converted to 1,2-dibromopropane , 
and then treat 1,2- dibromopropane with alcoholic KOH  and it will converted to 
2- bromopropene and then treat 2-bromopropene with alcoholic KOH again and u will get PROPYNE AS YOUR PRODUCT ..
