U 238 to Pb with half life 4.47 x10^9 yrs. This rxn happens in steps. Can you justify a single half life for such a rxn?

Dear Abhinav,

The equation for the alpha decay of 238U is:

92238U --> 90234Th + 24He

The alpha particle is represented as an He nucleus.
