As to catch ball he must be below the ball and as horizontal component of velocity of ball remains constant due to absence of any force in horizontal direction. So man`s velocity must be equal to vcos60° = v/2.Hope it clears. If u have doubts then please clearify. And if u like my answer then please approve answer

if man wants to catch the ball, the horizontal velocity of both man and ball must be same. so, horizontal component of velocity of ball is "" Vcos60° = V/2 . hence velocity of man must be V/2 to catch the ball
