A point mass starts moving in straight line with const.acceleration. After time t o ,the acceleration changes its sign, remaining the same in magnitude. Determine the time t from the beginning of motion in which the point mass returns to the initial position?

Dear Chilukuri

after tvelocity of particle =ato

Distance travell in time to

S1 =0 +1/2 a to2

Time taken from from Point B to C in forward motion is

v=u -at

0=ato -at

t= to

same time willl take to come from point c to b

and from motion B to A  time take is

S1 = at0 + 1/2 a t2

1/2 a to2   = at0 + 1/2 a t2

solve for t

t = ( √2 -1 )to

so total time  t = to +to +to +( √2 -1 )to

                        =( √2 +2 )to
