My Question is:
A train has to negotiate a curve of 250m. By how much should the outer rail be raised with respect to the inner rail for a speed of 54 km/hr ? the distance between the rails is 1.2m. Take g=10m/s2
I am unable to get the formula to solve this.
Thank You.
DearChinmayi Karmalkar,
Ans; Draw the FBD of the problem. let N be the normal reaction and the horizontal part of which gives the centipetal Accn. Hence the eq of motion are
N sinθ=mv²/r
N cosθ=mg
Hence tanθ=v²/rg
Putting the values we get that tanθ=0.09
Let the height of the outer track is=x Then tanθ=x/1.2
So x=0.108 m(ans)
