Dear Nithin,

When a swimmer dives into the water, then he pierces him self so as to reduce the frictional force due to air and due to water, as pressure is inversely propotional to surface area, so the swimmer tries to minimize the pressure exerted by water by strecthing him self and hence reducing the surface area of himself.

thanks and regards
