The field lines represent the path that a positive magnetic charge would follow under the influence of a magntic field.
Thus a unit magnetic charge, would move from south to north pole.
Thus magnetic fields of lines are represented as they are.

The field lines are from north pole to south pole outside the magnet.
We know that magnetic lines are continuous curves.
So inside the magnet they should be from south to north pole in order to form continuous curve.
