Hello Student
Here n represents the number of water molecule attached to the NaOH . These are called water of crystallization.
The number of water of crystallization is 1, 2, 3,4 or 5. Practically. More than 5 water of crystallization is not found in case of NaOH. This is probably due the fact that NaOH being small molecules can not accommodate more than 5 water molecules.
