Copper is one of the coinage metal.It is considered as noble metal which is indicated by its high positive values of standard electrode potentials.Oxidising acids in hot conc. form can attack the metal.Like conc.nitric acid attack the metal in the following way-
Cu + 4HNO3(hot,conc.) ---------------> (CuNO3)2 + 2NO2 + 2H2O
Copper is also attacked by hot,conc.HCl which results in the formation of choloro complexes like CuCl42- .
But copper does not react with dilute acids like HCl in the absence of air or other oxidising agent.
