A polydentate ligand has more than one donor site. Bidentate ligands have two donor sites. Tridentate ligands have three binding sites. 1,4,7-triazaheptane (diethylenetriamine) is an example of a tridentate ligand. Tetradentate ligands have four binding atoms.
