K H for CO 2 in water is 1.67x10 8 Pa at 298K. Calculate the mass of CO 2 that can be dissolved in 500 ml of water at a pressure of 2.5 atmosphere at 298K. ( 1 atm= 1.013 x10 5 Pa)

One can use teh Henry’s law, according to which
At a constant temperature, the amount of a given gas that dissolves in a given type and volume of liquid is directly proportional to the partial pressure of that gas in equilibrium with that liquid.
On using the formula,
P=kH* MOLE FRACTION OF C02
Putting the values of kH and P, one can calculate the mole fraction of CO2
Given that the volume of water is 500mL(one can take the amount of water as 500g
Thus one can find the amount of water
Now, on using the equation for the mole fraction of CO2, one can easily find the no. of moles of CO2 and hence the amount of CO2 to be dissolved in the given amount of water.
