HELLO GAUTAM,
40% w/w = 40g H2SO4 in 100gm of solution
Please understand in the question that %w/w will not change with dilution but only %w/v will change.
So Volume = 100/1.05
                 =   95.24ml
%w/v = 90
            -------    X 100
             95.24
         =   42%
Volume = 100/1.4
            =      71.43 ml
% w/v = 40
           --------   X 100
           71.43
    => 56%
