In a short and simple method we can calculate the hybridization of them.... first of all count the valence electrons for the given compound, like in above questions ClO2 negative The valence electrons are (7*1)+(6*2) i.e total 19. If any charge is present then, if negative charge is theirs add no. of charge but if any positive charge is their so subtract the no. of charge. So ClO2 has 20 electrons. Now divide this by 8 and then the quotient will be no. of bond pairs nd if any remainder is their then divide that by 2 that will give you lone pair(s). Finally we get steric number that will give us the hybridization... Thus on above-mentioned questions ClO2 negative has 2 bond pairs and 2 lone pairs thus steric number is 4 hence Sp3 hybridization.. For ClO3 negative:- total valence electrons is 26. Thus, 3 bond pairs and 1 lone pair hence Sp3 hybridization..
