inner transition element are the f block element placed below the periodic table , but they belongs to group 6 and 7 within the transition series . 
the electronic configuration of the element is ( n-2 ) f ^ 0-14  ( n-1 ) d ^0-2  ns^ 2 
these are divided into two groups 
1- lanthanoids 
2- actinoids
