This section contains multiple questions. Each question contains STATEMENTS 1 (Assertion) and STATEMENT 2 (Reason). Each question has 4 choices (A), (B), (C), and (D), out of which ONLY ONE is correct. (A) Statement 1 is True and statement 2 is True; statement 2 is correct explanation for statement 1. (B) Statement 1 is True and statement 2 is True; statement 2 is not a correct explanation for statement 1. (C) Statement 1 is True and statement 2 is False. (D) Statement 1 is False and statement 2 is True. Statement 1: Methyl chloride has a greater dipole moment than methyl fluoride. And Statement 2: Chlorine has greater electron affinity value than fluorine.

(C)   Statement 1 is True and statement 2 is False.

(D)   Statement 1 is False and statement 2 is True.

Statement 1: Methyl chloride has a greater dipole moment than methyl fluoride.

Dipole moment = (charge) χ (distance between the charges)

Charge is same for Both Cl and F but Bond Length of Cl-C is > F-C = 1.78 Aoand 1.39Ao respectively.

Dipole moment of methyl chloride is 1.90 and the one of methyl fluoride is 1.85

Electron Affinity of Cl > F . But this is not the reason for Dipole Moment

So, Ans is (B)
