Smileas u should know according to FAJANS rule HIGHER THE CHARGE ON CATION HIGHER IS ITS POLARISING POWER CONSEQUENTLY HIGHER WILL BE COVALENT CHARACTER>..................SO ACC> TO QUESTIN PENTAHALIDES HAVE CTIONIC CHARGE +5 WHILE TRI HALIDE HAVE +3 ...............................SO penta haides are more covalent than trihalides ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,dont forget to hit like if u find this really intersting>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> as help u now its ur turn that u shoul click like or yes tag below    Embarassed

In pentahalides oxidation state is +5 and in trihalides oxidation state is +3, since the metal ion with the high charge has more polarising power, pentahalides are more covalent than trihalides as more the positive charge ,lesser wil be the size and more strong will be the covalent bond so pentahalide forms stronger covalent bond than trihalides

Elements react with halogens to form two series of halides : EX3 and EX5. Nitrogen does not form pentahalide due to non availability of the d orbitals in its valence shell. Pentahalides are more covalent than trihalides. All the trihalides of these elements except those of nitrogen are stable. In case of nitrogen NF3 is known to be stable. trihalides except BiF3 are predominantly covalent in nature.

Pantahalides are more covalent than trihalides because in pantahalides oxidation no is +5,it means that it can form 5 bonds with another it means it is more covalent than trihalides.
