When the user exhales into a breath analyzer, any ethanol present in their breath is oxidized to acetic acid at the anode:

CH3CH2OH(g) + H2O(l) → CH3CO2H(l) + 4H+(aq) + 4e-

At the cathode, atmospheric oxygen is reduced:

O2(g) + 4H+(aq) + 4e- → 2H2O(l)

The overall reaction is the oxidation of ethanol to acetic acid and water.

CH3CH2OH(l) + O2(g) → CH3COOH(l) + H2O(l)

The electrical current produced by this reaction is measured by a microprocessor, and displayed as an approximation of overall blood alcohol content

the half life for a first order reaction is 25 minutes. calculate the rate constant and apply it ti find the time required for 85% complition of the reaction ?

we have the relation between the half lide and the rate constant as half life t1/2=.693/k k is the rate constant or k=.693/t1/2 =.693/25 min^-1 =2.772*10^-2 min^-1 time required for 25%...

The vapour density of a mixture containing NO2 and N2O4 is 38.3 at 300K. The number of moles of NO2 in 100g of the mixture is … ?

The vapor density of a gas is the density of that gas relative to that of hydrogen gas. Therefore, Vapor density = (density of NO2/N2O4 mixture)/ (density of H2 gas) Vapor density = (mass of...
