Dear bala,

The anomalous properties of lithium are

Lithium is harder than other alkali metals and it is stored under paraffin wax or oil.Lithium is turned out into grayish when expose to air.Lithium undergoes melting process in dry air without affecting its structure and properties.Comparing other alkali metals, it is least reactive because of the following properties, It doesn’t undergo any reaction with air.Lithium reacts with water slowly, liberates hydrogen and forms lithium peroxides.Lithium reacts with bromine rarely but other alkali metals react with bromine vigorously.Lithium is the alkali metal that reacts with nitrogen that forms lithium nitrite.Lithium is heated with ammonia to produce amide, Li2NH, where other alkali metals will form MNH.Lithium burns in air to produce Li2O, where other alkali metals will form peroxides and super oxides with air.Li2O has low basic property and thus less soluble in water comparing other alkali metal.

The anomalous properties of lithium is mainly due to Small size .High electro negativity and ionization energy
