Generally the combined score of both is considered, or to be clear on basis of JEE mains you get eligibility for JEE advanced and on the basis of JEE Mains one gets eligibility for admission in high profile IITs, otherwise there are some other reputed colleges and universities too where the students get quality education and best possible placements.
