Here the transmission of energy would takes olace b/w the whole system.
Henc ewhen the lower chord igiven a jerk it transmits the energy to the mass as an impulse and hence to transmit the nrgy to the upper chord it has to first overcome the block which obvious has larger mass than the chord and therfore the lower chord would break first.
