Molisch test is used for carbohydrates.
Molisch Reagent: α-napthol dissolved in ethanol
Conc.sulphuric acid is added to the solution of sugar and molisch’s reagent, along the wall of test tube, without mixing. A poitive reaction is indicated by
appearance of a purple ring at the interface of the layers.
