The loop ABCDA shown in the circuit is a Wheatstone bridge circuit(rab/rad = rbc/rdc) in which points B and D are at same potential i.e,  Vb = Vd.
Hence no current will flow in the resistance r connected between B and D. Removing this resistance, the simplified circuit will now consist of three parallel branches of resistance between A and C:
Branch ABC having resistance 2r (in which rab = r and rbc = r)
Branch ADC having resistance 2r (in which rad = r and rdc = r) and
Branch AC having resistance r.
Thus equivalent resistance between A and D = rad = r   Ans.
