the current is defined as V/R=I, the larger the length of wire , suppose infinite length then the time take to flow current is infinite, hence length is a barrier to flow of current between the two points, resistance is inversely proportional to cross sectional area, larger the area will more electrons will flow through area, hence less resistance.
