EMF: It electro motive force or the potential difference which availabel to the whole circuit.

whereas the potential difference is simply the difference of potential between two points in the circuit.
In practical circuits there is some resistance present in the battery also.Hence the total potential that can be available to the circuit is less than the available.

V=E-I.r

V-->Potential difference
E--->Electro Motive Force
I---->Current in the circuit
r---->Internal Resistance
