I am a second year Electrical Engineering undergraduate at IIT Kanpur. The third semester in our college is over and the internship race will start in the fifth semester. That means that I have only one semester in hand.My CGPA/CPI is not very impressive(6 point something).Whenever i read blogs and stories of other people/IITians regarding placements and interships i feel that i am an average nobody when compared to them.I have only basic knowledge of C language while most electrical engineering students have a fair knowledge of programming and stuff.I really like my branch and the related courses(i have studied so far).I would prefer a job in the core field or software industry. But right now i have no idea as to how will it be possible. As far as the CGPA is concerned i think that by the end of the fourth semester it would be in the early 7(I messed up my CGPA in the first year and considerably improved it in the third semester). But the real problem that i am facing is that i have no clear directions as to what to do next.I see other students of my department and people from other branches who are at a very comfortable position(decent CGPA,POR's and most important of all the knowledge of what and how they have to do).I am an introvert and do not enjoy socialising much.I have been almost zero when it comes to extra curriculars and POR(position of responsibilities) and so i think that i do not stand a chance in other job fields such as consulting, finance etc.As i have said i really love my branch but the kind of people that are hired in core and software jobs are,in my experience, unparalleled when it comes to technical skills(programming etc).I do not know how will i be able to get such job(if i ever will).A lot of people do internships in the second year but right now i really do not understand why a company will take a second year student like me.I get depressed when i start to think all this and how it would affect me and my job chances. Please give some advice in this regard,if possible,in detail as to what i need to do as there is not much time left.

Dear Alok Singh,

You really are in a very confused situation.I know how it feels to be in this position because I was through this too. You do not believe me ? You know my CGPA was jus 6.2 by the end of third semester but right now I am in a very comfortable position. All this happened just because I was able to put the thought that I can not stand before other guys in my college to the back of my mind and start working earnestly making every effort possible to attain success.

Remember always that there still is time. There is still time to transform yourself into someone who you always wanted you to be. There is always time . Work hard and you will realise your dreams soon. It would be hard initially but it is worth the wait . As Einstein said, I am not smart,I just stay with my Problems longer'', you stay with your problems longer and you will see how things change so rapid.

Do not underestimate yourself. The Power of a human mind is unthinable and undreamable. You will surprised and might think if you can do it or you have what it takes to do it. Absolutely yes,you are what you think you are ! Dream big, achieve big !!

Wishes from an IITian himself !!

Hope this helped you immensely..!

All the Very Best & Good Luck to you ..!!
