you need the following 4 things to qualify kvpy , 
1- focus on conceptualizing the subject while you are learning it . 
2- study throughly the previous year paper to get the pattern , this will help you get the pattern . 
3- go through the numerical and ques given at the back side of ref books , 
4- kvpy doesnot have any well defined syllabus , so, try to cover syllabus in all aspect , means all things related to the concept . 
START WITH NCERT AND TAKE A SAMPLE KVPY REF BOOKS , LIKE KVPY CRACKER BY ARIHANT .
