You can do this proving the triangles similar and using the ratio of sides259-1233_Presentation1.jpg
Triangle ABC and ADE(Similar) by AA
So, AD/AB=AE/AC= DE/BC (I)

Triangle ADF and ABG (Similar) (by AA)
So,
AD/AB=AF/AG (2)

Now, ar(Tri. ADE)/ar(tri. ABC)= 2/3 (given)

1/2(AF* DE)/1/2(AG*BC) =2/3
(AF/AG)*(DE/BC)=2/3 (3)
BUt from eqn 1 and 2

AF/AG= AD/AB = DE/BC
Substituting in eqn 3
We get, (DE/BC)2=2/3

DE= BC* (2/3)1/2
=
18(2/3)1/2
