The inductions current is produced in order to resist any change in the magnetic flux. If a current produces a certian magnetic field and brings about a change in the magnetic flux ,the induction current will tend to cause a decrease in the change caused by the current . Consequently it produces an opposing current and reduces the coming current.

This can also be understood on basis of law of conservation of energy.
If The induction current tends to increase the coming current, a such machine would have been developed which will be able to produce its own energy. In this machine, The coming current would continue to increase the induction current and the induction current can cause an increase in the coming current. Consequently even the magnitude of a small current can reach infinite times nd then energy cant be conserved.
