PlEASE EXPLAIN ME THE DIPOLE MOMENT CONCEPT CLEARLY.....
Thank u sir....
Dear ankit
The bond dipole moment uses the idea of electric dipole moment to measure the polarity of a chemical bond within a molecule. The bond dipole μ is given by:
The bond dipole is modeled as +δ — δ- with a distance d between the partial charges +δ and δ-. It is a vector, parallel to the bond axis, pointing from minus to plus, as is conventional for electric dipole moment vectors. (Some chemists draw the vector the other way around, pointing from plus to minus, but only in situations where the direction doesn't matter. This vector can be physically interpreted as the movement undergone by electrons when the two atoms are placed a distance d apart and allowed to interact, the electrons will move from their free state positions to be localised more around the more electronegative atom.

Dear ankit,
Dipole moment is the polarity measurementof a polar covalent bond. The higher the polarity of a molecule the more is the dipole moment. It refers to the molecule which makes a dipole and it is equal to the product of charge on the atoms and the the distance between the two atoms which are bounded with each other. Unit of dipole moment is debye and Standard International Unit of Dipole moment is Coulomb meter. Dipole moments can be calculated through the comparison of dielectric constant and the refractive index of the solutions. The asymmetry of the water molecule leads to a dipole moment in the symmetry plane pointed toward the more positive hydrogen atoms. The measured magnitude of this dipole moment is Treating this system like a negative charge of 10 electrons and a positive charge of 10e, the effective separation of the negative and positive charge centers is If you like this answer please approve it.... win exciting gifts by answering the questions on Discussion Forum Sagar Singh B.Tech IIT Delhi sagarsingh24.iitd@gmail.com
