sir, acidic nature increases with increase in size.eg-HI>HBr.why?although Br- is more stable.please answer me.
anamika singh
size doesnt matter in determining the acidic nature of a compd. the main factor is electronegativity difference as well as the bond strength of the compd. so HBr is less acidic bcoz of the fact that the bond b/w the 2 atoms i.e. H and Br is relatively more strong than that of b/w H and I .
SO THE COMPD. HI CAN BE EASILY BROKEN INTO H AND Br AND AS WE KNOW THAT ACIDITY OF A COMPD. IS DEPENDENT ON THE FACT THAT HOW EASILY A COMPD. CAN DONATE H IONS.
i dnt think that br- is more stable than i-.......
