Oximes have the structure X\Y/C= N−OH, in which X and Y are hydrogen atoms or organic groups derived by removal of a hydrogen atom from anorgnc cmpnd. Because most oximes are solids with characteristic melting points, they are useful in identifying liquid aldehydes and ketones.
