For a function to be continuous at a point, as you may know, the left hand and right hand limits are equal. Keeping the graph and concept of box function in mind, we can say that the left hand limit of f (x) is 0 as for any value of x approaching 1 but less than 1 [x]=0 . Whereas similarly, right hand limit is equal to 1. Hence the function is discontinuous at x=1. Hence it is also non differentiable at that point.
