In the case of bryophytes the gametophyte and sporophyte are depedent on each other and gametophyte fixes to the soil and sporophyte grows above the water surface attached on the notch and makes spores , where the female spore is retained and the male spore fetilises through the water media. But in pteridophytes sporophyte and gametophyte are not distinct
