Gene is a segment of dna while alleles are 2 contracting forms of gene. Consider a gene for any character then it will have 2 allele they may be dominant or recessive

Actually gene and allele are very closely related terms. To speak in bookish language, gene is a section or part of DNA which codes for a specific enzyme. And allele us contrasting form of traits for a gene. But to make it understandable, gene is actually a wide term used for a sequence of DNA thats going to produce some effect. While when we talk about ALLELE, then we are being very precise about the gene that is present and the effect that it will produce.A gene = A characterIts alleles = variants or traits of that character.

An allele is a variant form of a gene. Some genes have a variety of different forms, which are located at the same position, or genetic locus, on a chromosome. Humans are called diploid organisms because they have two alleles ,one at each geneticlocus, with one allele inherited from each parent.

Alleles occur in pairs but genes does not occur in pairs and pair of alleles produce opposite phenotypes whereas gene does not.
