hi,

 let us  take  the perpendicular lines as axis ,  if there is a point such that ,  sum of its distances from the axis is  1 ,

then  lxl + lyl = 1 . will be its locus ( coz  x= its distance from the y axis & y = from x axis)

it gives a squre as shown in the following figure
