What u need to understand about fractional distillation is that – the crude oil have diffrent size , weight and boiling point and for separating them we use the process fractional distillation .. 
I AM EXPLAINING THE METHOD OF THAT HERE , TRY TO DO IT WITH A THERMOCOOL . 
FOR DIAGRAM KINDLY REFER TO NCERT 
1- HEAT THE MIXTURE OF TWO SUBSTANCES WITH DIFFRENT BOILING POINT TO A HIGH TEMPERATURE . 
2- the substance will boil and forming the vapour , most substances will go into vapour phase . 
3- the vapour enter into the botom of fractional distillation column . 
they have tray which have many holes , and bubble caps , and that will allow it to pass the vapour . 
4- the vapour rises in the column . 
5- as the vapour rises through the tray it cools down . 
6- when a substance in the vapour reaches a height where the temperature of the column is equal to that of the substances boiling point , it will condense to form a liquid . 
7- the trey collect the vapour liquid fractions , 
8- the collected liquid may pass in the condenser which cool them further and go to the storage tank , or they go to chemical area for processing . 
WHATEVER STEPS I DESCRIBED ABOVE , TRY TO SHOW THAT IN THERMOCOOL PROCESS .
