GIVEN  POINTS (1,1); (2,3)  AREsame side of the line 2x-y+a=0
THEN SUBSTITUTE POINTS ABOVE EQUATOIN
2-1+a>0 ;  4-3+a>0
a+1>0 ;a+1>0
FROM TWO  INIEQUALITIES WE  GET 1
                          THAT   IS  a=  R-(1)
