For NRIs seeking Admission into Indian Engineering Colleges

Non-resident Indians or NRIs are defined as those having lived outside India for a period exceeding 10 years.

Eligibility:

EligibilityThis category of admission is only applicable to those students who have passed their Class X or Class XII or both from an Indian board (such as ICSE or CBSE) outside India with a minimum aggregate of 60%, with the exception being NRIs from Bangladesh and Pakistan. If you are counted as an NRI student, and if you wish to apply for a UG (undergraduate) course in pharmacy or engineering, you need not appear for MHT-CET. You can directly appear for AIEEE.

Colleges with NRI Quota:

Quota for NRIs is generally 15% of the management quota according to the rules stipulated by DTE; however, they are applicable to change. It should be noted that not all colleges with management quota dedicate 15% of their seats to NRI students.

If you are an NRI student and an engineering aspirant, you can try applying to the below mentioned colleges:

  • College of Engineering, Pune (or COEP)

  • Institute of Chemical Technology (or ICT)

1. Regularly visit the website of the respective college during the months of May and June. If you lack knowledge of the website’s URL, you can find it on Google.

2. Colleges are not always cooperative, and you may have to visit the college just to be notified about the admission forms. In addition, you will have to stay in touch with college authorities through phone, too. Therefore, it would be wise if you made a note of all phone numbers of the colleges.

3. Colleges will either upload a form on the website and email or print it for submission at the college or they may put up a notice asking students to visit the respective college to fill up the form.

4. Students need to carry attested copies of original documents with them at all times. The following are some of the documents to be carried:

  • Recent color photographs besides the one attached to the form

  • Carry sufficient money as you may be asked to pay a stipulated fee during form submission (a sufficient sum of money would be Rs 2000/-)

  • Passport of the applicant or those of his or her parents or grandparent or great-grandparents, which have been issued by the Indian Government

  • Proof of NRI status from Indian Embassy situated in the respective country

  • Residence or Work Permit

  • Tuition Fee: USD 3000

  • Development Fee: USD 1000

  • Other Fees: Rs 5600

  • Total Fee Yearly: USD 4000 + Rs 5600

Every NRI student has to pay a fee of Rs 15,000/- during the time of application by Demand Draft.

Following is the Fee Structure per year payable by students belonging to the exclusive category of “Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries,” which is a special NRI quota for students who have obtained admission to the four-year degree course in the stream of engineering.

  • Tuition Fee: USD 1500

  • Development Fee: USD 500

  • Other Fees: Rs 4000

  • Total Fees per year: USD 2000 + Rs 4000

Students belonging to the category titled “Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries,” which is a special NRI quota, have to pay Rs 5000 as processing fees during the application time by Demand Draft, which is drawn in favor of “Director, Technical Education, Mumbai,” which is payable at Mumbai.

Important Note:

Important NoteStudents should note that if their parents are working in Gulf countries, then they are entitled to this special NRI quota. However, it should also be noted that all colleges having NRI quota may not have the exclusive Gulf NRI quota. Therefore, you must check in advance with the college with regards to this quota. In addition, if you belong to a special category of NRI quota, then you can apply in the General NRI category, too. However, this will reduce your chances of gaining admission into a particular college, as the number of students will be higher in the General NRI category.

This sums up the admission process and the fee structure for NRI students who want to obtain admission into Indian Engineering colleges.
