EAMCET
EAMCET – The Engineering Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test
Engineering Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) provides gateway to many government and private minority and non-minority colleges and institutions in Andhra Pradesh offering professional courses in agriculture, medical, and engineering streams. EAMCET is conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNT University) on behalf of The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (ASPCHE).
For 2009, the State Government of Adhra Pradesh has announced that EAMCET ranking will also take 25% of marks scored in the Intermediate Public Examination (IPE) or 10+2 level into consideration. It is believed that more weightage might be allotted to IPE marks in EAMCET rankings in the future.
Due to higher demand of pharmacy and restriction on students in the first year to write EAMCET papers for practice, the number of applicants for medical and engineering seats has gone down. It means that candidates taking EAMCET 2009 will have to face less competition in these two streams. As opposed to 80,000 candidates in 2008, the number of candidates applying for medical seats has reduced to 54,000. Similarly, the number of engineering applicants has reduced from 2,70,000 to 2,53,000.
Benefits of the EAMCET Exam
EAMCET allows access to following:
95% of sanctioned intake of seats in each course in university colleges, and
80% of sanctioned intake of seats in each course in un-aided non-minority and minority professional institutions, including 20% seat allotment for candidates belonging to other States and Union Territories of India or NRIs.
